1. Camera and Cube Scanning
Your webcam or phone camera turns on only when you explicitly press Scan my cube and grant browser permission.
Video frames are sent over an encrypted connection to our server solely to detect Rubik's cube sticker colors and calculate a solution or training steps. We do not use camera frames to identify people, and you can use the solver without a camera at any time via Color by hand.
2. Cookies and Local Progress
We use first-party functional cookies (such as rubik_lesson, rubik_practice, and rubik_selfcheck) to remember your current lesson step, practice statistics, and language preferences so your progress is preserved when you reload or close the tab. You can clear these cookies at any time in your browser settings.
The rubik_palette functional cookie stores six measured sticker colors for up to 30 days. It contains no camera images or cube layout. The scanner uses the saved colors only as a starting guess and adjusts them to fresh camera frames. We also save your cube layout, exact solution, lesson state, and current step in sessionStorage and localStorage so you can continue for up to seven days. Pending usage events are kept in IndexedDB for up to seven days and retried until our server confirms receipt. These records contain random visit and solving-process identifiers, not camera images. You can remove them by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
To understand where visitors pause and when they return, we store a random browser identifier in a first-party cookie named rubik_browser for up to one year, renewed when you open the scanner or guide. It links visits and saved diagnostic sessions from the same browser profile. It is not based on your camera, IP address, or device fingerprint. Clearing this site's cookies resets the identifier; another browser or device gets a different identifier.
3. Advertising and Google AdSense
We may display advertisements served by Google AdSense and its partners to keep rubik.page free for everyone.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to rubik.page and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (or www.aboutads.info).
For more details on how Google processes data in advertising products, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
4. Technical Logs and Analytics
Our server and Cloudflare infrastructure process technical request metadata, such as IP addresses and browser information, to protect the service and diagnose errors. Usage events and saved diagnostic sessions can be linked by the random browser identifier described above. Usage event logs are retained for up to 400 days; diagnostic camera archives rotate when their storage limit is reached.
For connections that bypass Cloudflare, the country is estimated from the IP address with a local database; only the two-letter country code is kept. IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
