Solve a Rubik's cube online with your camera
rubik.page is a free Rubik's cube solver for the classic 3x3 cube. You don't have to type in the colors by hand: the solver reads them from your webcam or phone camera. Then it finds a short solution and shows each turn on a 3D cube, with a plain hint like “turn the right face clockwise”. You don't need to know cube notation, and there is nothing to install. It works as a Rubik's cube solver on a laptop webcam, a phone or a tablet.
How to solve the cube with the solver
- Press Scan my cube to open the scanner. Use the camera, choose Color by hand to enter the colors manually, or Load to open a saved cube or lesson.
- Show the faces one by one, in any order. The cube net next to the video fills in as you go.
- When all 6 faces are scanned, compare your cube with the net: each outlined pair of stickers must sit side by side on your cube. If a pair differs, either slowly turn the cube in front of the camera across that edge, as the hint shows, or click the problem face on the net. Each click rotates it 90° clockwise without scanning again.
- When all pairs match, press Solve.
- Hold the cube with white on top and red facing you, and repeat the moves from the screen.
Learn how to solve a Rubik's cube yourself
Want to solve the cube without a solver? Press Train after scanning. It teaches the beginner's layer-by-layer method on your own cube: it outlines the piece to move, shows where it goes and names the algorithm. You need only five short algorithms, and almost all of them are built from one four-move algorithm (R U R' U'). The beginner's guide explains the same seven steps with pictures:
- White cross — put the four white edges around the white center.
- White corners — finish the first layer.
- Middle layer — insert the four middle edges to solve two layers.
- Yellow cross — make a cross on the last layer.
- Yellow edges — move the edges of the cross to their places.
- Corners to their places — put the last-layer corners in the right spots.
- Twist the last corners — turn each corner until the cube is solved.
New to cube notation? The guide shows clockwise and counterclockwise turns as simple gestures, and the cheat sheet fits all algorithms on one screen.
Rubik's cube net and colors
The scanner builds a cube net: the six faces of the cube unfolded flat, like a paper box. With white on top and red in front, green is on the left, blue on the right, yellow at the bottom and orange at the back. Each face on the net is placed by its center color, so you can scan the faces in any order. The outlined sticker pairs on the net show which stickers meet at an edge, so you can check the scan against your real cube before solving.
Questions
Is the Rubik's cube solver free?
Yes. You can solve your cube for free, directly in your browser.
Can I solve the cube without a camera?
Yes. In the scanner choose Color by hand, pick a color and tap the stickers on the cube net. Then press Solve.
Which cubes does it solve?
The standard 3x3 Rubik's cube with white, yellow, red, orange, blue and green stickers. 2x2, 4x4 and other puzzles are not supported.
How many moves does the solution take?
Usually about 20. The solver uses the Kociemba two-phase algorithm and never needs more than 24 moves.
How do I learn to solve a Rubik's cube myself?
Scan your cube and press Train. It teaches the beginner's layer-by-layer method in seven stages on your own cube. The beginner's guide explains the same seven rules with pictures.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Open the site in your phone's browser and use the back camera.
